Click to view Transgender Standard Operating Procedures: ATLANTA POLICE DEPARTMENT TRANSGENDER INTERACTIONS SOP
As I reminisce back to the challenges that I’d faced after becoming the very first Trans person Appointed to serve on the Atlanta Citizen Review Board in 2016, I never imagined that during my second term, I’d be encouraged to seek leadership and then be unanimously elected by board members to serve as Vice Chair.
It was also a life-affirming surprise to also become the very first recipient of the Ivory Young Jr. Award for community service, which is the first such award named in honor of the late Councilman whom played a pivotal role in the establishment of the ACRB following the shooting death of Ms. Kathryn Johnson.
As importantly, I was also honored to have a seat at the table in collaboration with other community stakeholders and Atlanta Police Department to develop the Standard Operating Procedures, which are their trained guidelines on how to appropriately interact with Trans and Gender Non-Conforming people.
