Creating safe and caring places for transgender people and their families is one of the most pressing challenges for faith communities today. From October 15-18 you’re invited to The Beyond Pink & Blue Conference for three days of community, story-telling, and spiritual growth. The weekend will include trans-led musical performances, keynote presentations, workshops, community spotlights and more. Whether you are a religious leader, mental health professional, family member of a trans person, or a trans person yourself, Beyond Pink & Blue Conference aims to offer insight, language, and practical skills to transform your community into a place where gender diversity isn’t just accepted but celebrated. Registration is free and all donations will benefit the Trans Atlanta Housing Program. A Global Online WebConference

October 15 – 18, 2020

Atlanta, Georgia

Atlanta is the host of an upcoming global online webconference for transgender people, their families and allies on October 15 – 18, 2020.

The Applied Wisdom Institute of the University of Redlands is organizing a transgender faith and spirituality conference with local community leaders, organizations and educational institutions in Atlanta, Georgia. This conference is being supported by a generous grant from the E. Rhodes and Leona B. Carpenter Foundation of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

The co-chairs of the conference planning team are two of the visionary, pioneering transgender leaders of the Atlanta LGBTQ+ community: Dee Dee Ngozi Chamblee, the Executive Director of La Gender, Inc. and Rev. Dr. Erin Swenson, a marriage and family therapist. The planning team includes representatives from the Candler School of Theology at Emory University, Georgia State University and Columbia Theological Seminary. Faith leaders on the planning team include Rabbi Joshua Lesser of Congregation Bet Haverim, Rev. Kim Sorrells of the United Church of Christ, Rev. Dr. Letitia Campbell at Candler School of Theology, and Bishop Dennis A. Meredith of Tabernacle Baptist Church.

The purpose of this conference is to provide a safe and affirming space for transgender, gender nonconforming and non binary persons and their families and to serve as movement building for the transgender community in Atlanta, Georgia. In recent time, the human dignity and equal rights of transgender people have been under threat with the military ban, rescinding of medical protections, bathroom restriction bills and discrimination in the workplace. So, this conference is both timely and essential in providing support and empowerment for the trangender community.

Michael J. Adee, Ph.D., Director of the Global Faith and Justice Project within the Applied Wisdom Institute at the University of Redlands is serving as the coordinator of the grant and a resource staff person to the conference planning team.

Before the coronavirus pandemic, this conference was scheduled to be held in person for the community at the historic Central Presbyterian Church in Atlanta across from the State Capitol. For the safety and health of the community, the planning team has chosen to offer this as an online WebConference accessible to everyone in Atlanta, across the United States and around the world.

We so hope you will add your voice to this global transgender faith and spirituality by joining us for an enlightening conversation.

Sincerely

Conference Planning Team
